Our Complete Review of Sleeping Duck Mattress

Once in a while, I review beds with more than on firmness level. Most attempts to produce such products don’t quite get there. I came across this excellent product from Australia that sells in the UK. The Sleeping Duck, with a height of 12-inches, is a real marvel. The material quality and construction aim to achieve exceptional comfort at the perfect firmness level. I find its feature of having two levels of firmness convenient for both the manufacturer and you the buyer.

The Design – Assembly of Layers

Mattress Foundation and the Construction

Sleeping Duck’s design and construction impressed me a lot. The top cover and side panel blend to bring out a beautiful look. With a height of 30cm, the assembly feels very sturdy and high quality. Reaching inside was effortless as I took a peek inside to assess the internal construction. The mattress bears the CertiPUR-US certification which guarantees the foam used is safe. The bed rates 9 for its material and quality.

Reviewing The Cover: It has a beautiful design with a zip running along the top edge enabling easy removal of the. I think that this feature will come in handy during cleaning or replacing in case of damage. The top cover’s fabric is a bamboo and rayon blend, and the side panels are made from polyester for a tight stretchy wrap to keep everything in place. The topper fabric is highly breathable and absorbent to keep you moisture-free throughout the night. For extra features, it is perforated to increase breathability and infused with anti-microbial elements to ensure that it retains freshness for longer by keeping away dust mites and bedbugs.

The Top Comfort Layer: It is composed of a new kind of memory foam and latex blend with a gel infusion. It draws the pros of memory foam, for pressure relief, and latex for bounciness. I loved the ‘weightless’ feeling this next generation foam gives, and how it retains coolness throughout sleep. It recorded incredibly improved breathability because of the even aerations and remained cooler than any other foam that I have tested. It contours nicely around the body curves for efficient for pressure relief and gives a very comfortable feeling.

The Transition Layer: It is made from high-density polyurethane foam, and its primary purpose is to control firmness for providing support to the sleeper. It gives the sleeper pressure point relief and acts as a transition for compression from the comfort zone to the bouncy foundation. This layer enables it to adapt to your shape and sleep positions.

The transition is smooth and gradual, so you won’t bump into the layers as you get in bed. Being firmer than the comfort layer and less firm than the base, it makes the transition undetectable. It connects the plush layers to the firm springs to achieve two levels of firmness.

The Innerspring Coil Layer: This layer is made up of five different zones of varying firmness. The firmness levels are tuned to accommodate different pressure points for various sleeping positions. Separately satisfying the body separate region’s requirements, it is exceptionally comfortable and guarantees that you’ll rest well. Independently wrapping each coil helps reduce motion transfer from one spring to another, and to give them stability.

Countering the pressure from the sleeper’s weight the springs’ tension aids you to change positions quickly while you are asleep. I liked its bounce and the light feeling that it gives you of being ‘on top’ rather than sinking into it.

Firmness Grade

Medium – Is 6/10 on our firmness scale.

Firm – Is 7.5/10 on our firmness scale.

Sleeping Duck offers two firmness levels; one is medium firm with a rating of 6/10 and the other is firm with a score of 7.5/10 rating. Different regions of the body have varying pressure requirements which I find satisfactorily catered for by this bed. The shoulder region has a soft setting, while the mid and the leg region have a firmer setting.

There is another option, the split version available for the queen and king sizes. Sleeping Duck offers two independent five-zoned firmness levels on one product. When you shall want to adjust the firmness level, you contact the manufacturer for supplies and procedure of changing the layers to achieve your preferred setting.

I found it incredibly comfortable to lie on as it gives a balanced level of contouring and sinkage. I sunk in well enough for a gentle contouring hug with good pressure point relief. The feeling of being trapped in the mattress has been eliminated, unlike conventional memory foam beds. For support and comfort, I gave a rating of 9.

I noted how incredible it is in isolating motion while I reviewed the Sleeping Duck. I have noticed that products in this category tend to fail in the isolating movement which leads to a less comfortable sleep. On this mattress, you will not feel when your partner gets out or into bed. The zoned spring system achieves better motion isolation, grounding it through the spot it originates from. It gets a 9.1 rating for the motion transfer feature.

Cooling Rated

I loved the thermoregulation features offered by this mattress. The cooling process begins from the cover and becomes enhanced throughout aspect of the structure. The breathable cover offers very efficient ventilation, in and out, for quickly dissipating heat. It is good at absorbing moisture, so it ensures none accumulates on the skin guaranteeing a crisp and refreshing rest.

The aeration on the top cover facilitates air movements thus no heat will remain trapped in this zone. The gel infusion draws excess heat and dissipates it faster than regular gels. The airy coil layer offers a perfect outlet for dissipating the heat and ventilation. The cooling effect rates 9.

Edge Support

Support and Pressure Relief

Edge support is essential for guaranteeing a comfortable rest especially for those who sleep together and are sexually active. A firm, a well-supporting edge will ensure that you make use of most of the surface available to you. I find innerspring products fantastic for edge support, as they achieve consistent firmness given by the springs all the way to the edge. The foam layers can significantly compress, but the countering force from the springs will ensure that you remain comfortably seated and carrying on your activities.

The edge’s outer layer springs have stiffer tension to give rigid prop on the sides. I tried a few sleeping positions and liked the outcome. Overall comfort was for securely sleeping on Sleeping Duck when I reviewed it. Laying on the back position the top layer contoured nicely and filled the back cavity. There is proper spinal alignment, and the back gets enough propping to ensure that you sleep without pain in any pressure points. There were more compressions and contouring on the edges than at the center, thus giving it a rating of 8.5 for edge support.
