At times, simplicity is all you require to achieve your objectives. Let’s not mistake simplicity for lack of creativity. What Foam Was Used for Construction?

What Foam Construction Used

When I reviewed, I was impressed with both the outside and inside of the T&N. It has a unique but straightforward design engineered to ensure that you stay cool, cozy and supported as you sleep. It is two layers of specially created foam at 10-inches thick covered in white fabric.

The Cover: It’s a polyester/Tactel fabric which behaves like cotton except that it dries faster. The cover is quite stretchy and prevents bunching up. It’s also thin and soft. The thinness makes it extremely breathable while the softness makes it pleasant to touch.

T&N Adaptive® Foam: This is a 3-inch thick comfort layer with Tuft and Needle proprietary foam. It molds according to your shape and weight creating great pressure and even weight distribution. It’s soft but with very little sinking. This layer has cooling properties. It contains cooling gel and graphite. Graphite has moisture wicking properties.

Support Layer: This 7-inch thick layer is responsible for your support and mattress stability. It’s a high-density polyfoam, which also gives T&N shape and durability.

A closer look at the Tuft and Needle reveals a simple structure designed to provide the perfect sleeping experience. The materials and quality get an 8.9. These features combined give support, keep you comfortable and cool. T&N scores 8.8 for support and comfort.

There’s a newer model of Tuft and Needle, the Mint bed. It has a slight variation in structure from T&N with a third, transitional layer that contains even more gel. The adaptive foam is also more enhanced in Mint. It’s 12” thick.

Firmness, Motion Transfer and Sinkage

T&N Mattress – Is 6.5/10 on our firmness scale.

The soft mattress has two layers and may seem like it can’t accommodate a lot of weight, but it holds up quite well. The proprietary foam layer distributes your weight evenly giving you pressure relief. On my firmness scale, it rates at 6.5/10.

However, we tend to feel firmness differently. It is soft, but the adaptive foam makes it fast responsive, so you don’t experience the getting ‘stuck’ feeling. You can quickly change your position. Overall, this mattress can work well sleeping in a variety of positions. You don’t strain your back or develop pressure points. The base layer creates support for the top layer as it compresses from your weight.

T&N Mint – Is 6/10 on our firmness scale.

T&N Mint rates a 6/10 on the firmness scale. It contains a transitional layer which transfers the pressure from the top layer to the base. Unlike the other model, Mint has a softer feel because there’s no sudden change from the soft to the firm layer.

When I look at the motion isolation, just like in other foam beds, Tuft and Needle perform just as well, rating at 8.2. However, there are others which rate better than this. You’re going to experience some slight movements when there’s motion. It wouldn’t be a bad choice if you’ll be sharing.

It has a right amount of sink, but unlike the traditional foams, the adaptive layer has some bounce preventing the getting stuck feeling. You’ll sink but still be on the surface and not in. I loved that I could sink and even change positions without experiencing discomfort. The bounce in the adaptive comfort layer and the polyfoam base work together to ensure that you sleep supported and comfortable.

Is there a Temperature Cooling Effect?

Feel and Motion of Bed

I reviewed multiple traditional foams and it is notorious for overheating and sagging, making your sleeping experience more of a nightmare. The T&N is designed to overcome these flaws. No hot spots are formed because the top layer does an excellent job of dispersing the pressure, keeping you cool.

It’s worth noting that the cover and layers have heat regulation properties. The coat is thin, making it breathable. The adaptive top layer foam has cooling features thanks to the cooling gel and graphite.

Edge Support – Something You Want To Look At

Reviewed the Support

Do you frequently use the sides of your mattress? The edge support is definitely a factor that you must consider. This isn’t an issue that affects all buyers. If you value this support, then it’s vital to establish whether you can sit or sleep without the risk of falling over.

All-foam beds are good but with disadvantages such as poor edge support. Tuft and Needle really tries in this aspect scoring an 8.5. I could comfortably use the entire bed surface. Although there will be some compression, the base layer counters the pressure is giving you stability and ensuring that you don’t fall over. I could sleep in any position, and change without dipping. When sitting, I experienced most of the compression but still felt well supported.
